Original Item: Only one Available. This exact FMF Marine Winter Uniform Coat is featured on page 186 in the book Sailors in Forest Green; USN Personnel Attached to the USMC, Volume 1 by Jeff Warner. In fact this piece was purchased by IMA from the estate of Mr. Warner along with much of his personal collection.

In some instances, experienced Navy personnel were attached to Marine units as instructors, liaisons, to assist with the formation of new units and for their combat experience. The sailor in this reconstruction photograph is shown wearing the Marine winter service uniform. He was attached to the (USMC) Separate Engineer Battalions assigned to the Fleet Marine Force, Pacific Theater. He had participated in a number of amphibious operations prior to his Marine assignment. His invaluable knowledge of landing craft, amphibious DUKW trucks and LTVs would most certainly have benefited the Marine engineers. He could assist them with loading and distributing their equipment within the weight parameters of the landing craft and plan for the most imperative equipment to be readily available as soon as the engineers reached the beach. Once ashore, he could operate, maintain and repair the heavier engineer equipment such as generators, vehicles, etc. The FMF/PAC Engineers shoulder patch and machinist's mate second class rating badge are also visible.
